Whether you’re an adult, a teenager, or a kid whose mom just decided it was time to figure out what’s going on with those chompers, we realize that getting braces feels like a big decision. And it is! Taking charge of the state and status of your teeth can lead to a better smile and a more confident you. But we get it–nobody likes the idea of an impersonally sterile office filled with gadgets galore that buzz and whir around your teeth all controlled by some lady or guy in a white lab coat who is the ring leader of what has to be teeth torture. We’re here to clear up some of those misconceptions and hopefully quell some concerns you may have about orthodontists.
At our office, you can expect an experience unparalleled by others in the Birmingham-area. With a team of orthodontists including one former Green Beret with over twenty years of orthodontic experience, one who received the highest academic average in her postgrad orthodontic class, and one who has treated some of the most challenging dental cases in the Southeast while completing her Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham, we’ve got you. Oh, and did we mention our super sweet support staff filled with friendly dental assistants and office administrators who are skilled in explaining every step of your journey toward improving your smile?
But, Doc, isn’t this going to take forever? The answer is an honest “no.” Your first consultation is free and right around 40 minutes, and the majority of our clients are able to receive same-day braces, allowing for a quick exit out of our office and on the way to a new smile in about two hours.
You can ask us things! Ask what that weird-looking contraption does. Ask what the craziest thing we’ve ever seen was. Ask about your timeline for wearing braces. In fact, ask us about the best smoothie in town to drink once you’re rocking your new braces! At Birmingham Orthodontics, we strive to be completely transparent about your individualized process. Fire away with your questions. We’ll find you any answers you need to make your orthodontic transition as smooth as possible.
How bad is this going to hurt? The application process of the braces to your teeth causes no pain at all. However, you may experience some mild discomfort in the first few days as you adjust to the wire engagement with the new brackets. Generally, dull soreness is normal and to be expected. We have tips and tricks to alleviate some of the mild pain associated with this process, so again, ASK AWAY! As the proud owner of teeth in transition, you will find that it feels a little funny having that American-made metal or plastic in your mouth where there was previously none. However, your body will adjust to this change, and before you know it, you’ll find that braces are not only an integral aspect of your metamorphosis to a new smile, but that it’s as if they’re hardly there at all!
We pay attention to your needs and goals. When it comes to a straighter smile, we don’t skimp on the small stuff. From invisible braces to traditional metal ones and every bracket in between, our awesome orthodontic team has the knowledge and experience to give you the grin you were always meant to have.
At Birmingham Orthodontics, our mission is simple: we create smiles. Not only do we straighten the crooked grin, fix the bite, and adjust the jaw, we also brighten yearbooks, help young people come to like their looks, and give adults the confidence they have wanted for a long, long time. We also believe in our staff. Our culture of continuous learning has allowed us to host monthly training sessions for each team and bring in leading industry consultants to help keep us ahead of the curve.
